New blog
At this time I have very little room or opportunities to work on my minis much. I have always loved crafting though but I won't be doing miniatures anytime soon I'm afraid. However, I will be working on other crafts so I have started a new blog that will be more generalized and not set up in the purpose of talking about only one aspect of my hobbies. It is called dawninglightcreations.blogspot.com I hope you will check it out. I felt I was drifting away from minis in my last few posts, and since that isn't what this blog is focused on, it felt wrong to continue doing so here. Hope you will enjoy my new blog a much as I have in these past few days posting on it.

A popcorn ceiling...
At least that is what I am hoping it looks like. Tonight, to celebrate the completion of W2's and end of year taxes for work I textured the bottom floor ceiling and installed the first and second floors lights. I am happy with the way it came out. My parents ceilings look like this except they have, what I assume is, a light dusting of glitter. When I was little I thought it was fairy dust and when I was a little older I'd pretend they were stars. I wanted to have the same style in this house. Plus, using this technique really helps to disguise the lines for the wires and grooves. Now I wait for the joint compound to dry and I can paint it. I think I will omit the glitter though. In this scale I think it would be distracting.

Weathered start
I "weathered" the exterior with grey and then added a yellow brownish color. I love the front door, and I will be updating the window frames. My husband suggested I change the green I uses on the shutters to the same color as the windows but I am still wishy washy on that. The windows and door aren't glued in place only the shutters are. I will be testing some crackling techniques to use on the windows.
Best intentions...
Well you know what they say, I really did have the best intentions of starting another quarter scale house while I finish the furniture for my Pickett Hill. Of course that means re-organizing the small space I have taken over as my craft spot and cleaning up. Which led to me re-finding half scale colonial kit I have been fiddling with...I think you see where this is headed. Needless to say I now have the base, first floor, and walls up. I had previously cut a second stair hole in the top floor and because I jumped in to the cutting before I ever dry fit to see how it will be, I have had to rotate my floors and everything is now backwards. If left alone there is no head room for the mini people to climb into the third floor. That is a little disconcerting as I had already named it out in my head and now I have to think flipped. I am also reconsidering the exterior color. Currently it is Aging Barrel by Behr and the windows were to be an off whitish color. My goal was to create a weathered wintry look, with a warm inviting interior. Not so sure how that is working. This is the base color, no weathering or washes added. What would you do?

Happy Birthday to me!
I was given my presents a day early as my hubby and parents didn't think I needed to wait. So glad they did. Received the Kindle Fire HD and am loving it!! It does so much and I am very happy with it. The only two things I've found on the negative side is one, you can't us Vudu on it and two, it isn't suipported by Adobe Flash Player so I can't use it for Dollhouse Miniatures Imag or AIM magazine which I was really hoping for. Maybe they'll upgrade or something. In the meantime I can surf the web, watch movies, play games, read books...loving it! The case my parents got me is awesome. Rotates and stands in 3 degrees, and it's a dark dusky purple. Just enough girl's color to make me happy but in a hue that isn't distracting. Needless to say I didn't get any miniatures do e today. Besides my new gift I was fighting a migraine this morning and by afternoon my head felt like it was full of cotton and hard to think or focus on much. Hate that feeling.

Elora's cupboard bed
Well tonight I finished the bed structure for Elora's room. I only have the mattress and pillows to go. Now I have to find more of the sticky half bead thingys that I have been using for door and drawer handles. Found them at Michaels a loooonnngg time ago and since I won't be making a road trip any time soon I better get scouring online.

Kitchen built
Well this weekend was successful in regards to my Pickett Hill kitchen. All of the furniture was built, painted and installed. I even did the stools for the counter which were easier then I was expecting. I still have to build the totes for beneath the sink. They are based and drying as we speak so I can assemble, decorate and install later. I also have the little girls bed base pieces glued together. Ironically the E that is displayed on her shelf in her room is perfect for my daughter Elora. I still have quite a bit of accessorizing to do to the kitchen but I can say it is completed now.

Decision made.. Tea Rose Too
Well first off my eBay order arrived today, good news, the main street four square is complete, bad news, all the main pieces for the Dutch Colonial are missing. I was forewarned in the ad so I'm not angry with the seller, it was listed as estate sale. Still, the cost of both together is still far less the either one alone. So all in all I'm happy with what I got. I'll attach a picture that came with it as googling it was really difficult and only returned 1 result for me. I fell in love with the front porch. Strangely the kit comes with stairs but there is no hole on the second floor for the stairs to come out of. Only guess is you're supposed to imagine this as only part of the house and the other half is somewhere else.
As to my decision on which kit to do next I've decided on the Tea Rose Too. I have definite ideas for the interior as well as landscaping. The kit is for the house alone and landscaping pictured is for inspiration only. It will be super cute. I'm going to go for a modern English cottage feel on the furnishing, semi-shabby chic, muted colors, overstuffed furniture. The feeling of home and comfort, a place you would like to hide away in with a good book.

Happy belated new year!
The holidays were super busy and great, there was no time to post. I finished my niece's and nephew's stockings on Christmas Eve. Talk about cutting it close! They were a hit. My three year old nephew hugged his and was showing anyone who'd look his new stocking. That was the best reward for the rush. Now I have 16 more to do before this year's Christmas for family members.
As far as minis I haven't had much time to work on them but I did get some little mini kits for Christmas. One thing I received that i was excited about was a quarter scale fireplace tool set. I glues it in place in the Pickett Hill. They are so tiny and in scale they are hard to see. I also worked some on my Pickett hill kitchen and it is half finished.
Since I am so close to completion on this one I have been going through my other quarter scale kits trying to decide which one to do next. Last night I happened upon to estate sale Debbie Young kits, main street four square and a Dutch colonial. I hadn't ever seen them before and for the price to hard to pass up. I speed bid on them lol. The person selling was pretty sure everything is there. Hopefully they are right. They are super cute. The interior staircases sold me on them. I love stairs in dollhouses and Debbie Young designs are so detailed.
